Between Competition Stress and Club Life – What Makes Clubs Strong When They Suddenly Get Big

What happens when a completely normal gliding club suddenly has to organize a German championship or even a world championship? This presentation is not about theory, but about real experiences from practice: How to create structures without losing the community. How to motivate volunteers when the pressure increases. How a major event creates new energy, identity, and even new members. And which principles are transferable – for every club, no matter how big.

How an Idea from Gliding is Electrifying Aviation Anew.

Glider pilots have always been pioneers in aviation. We understand the laws of nature, the power of thermals, and the essence of pure flying. But what happens when this pioneering spirit meets modern energy technology? Axel Lange, founder of Lange Aviation and himself a passionate glider pilot, takes you on a technical journey: How the fascination with silent flight led to the creation of one of the most powerful and safest propulsion battery systems for general aviation - Antares.RED.3. Learn firsthand how a technology that not only revolutionizes gliding, but now also finds use in general and commercial aviation. A presentation about technology and also about the power of visions that originate in gliding.

HAWK: Air Mass Dynamics and Post Flight Analysis

Part 1 (H. Meyr, P. Huang) presents the HAWK system, which calculates air mass dynamics in real time. The alignment of the sensor unit axes with the aircraft axes is critical, which is why the electronic compensation of angle differences is addressed. Part 2 (H. Kindl) examines the post-flight analysis of IGC files. Using Matlab/Python evaluation programs, detailed insights into flight performance are gained to support glider pilots in optimization.

The Right Data at the Right Time

Satellite images are essential for the preparation, execution, and post-flight analysis of flights. With the new Meteosat generation, images are now available that represent a significant improvement over what has been available before, not only in spatial or temporal resolution. After a season of experience, we present where and how this information can be used. When which images should be used when and how information can be derived from them will be the content of this lecture.

Photography from the Cockpit. How to Create Breathtaking Images Without Much Effort

The lecture “Photography from the Cockpit” is aimed specifically at glider pilots who want to capture their experiences from the air in impressive images. It offers numerous tips, tricks, and practical advice—from choosing the right camera and creative image composition to dealing with difficult lighting conditions and reflections in the cockpit canopy. Special attention is paid to spontaneous photography during cross-country or thermal flights, but also to planned shots in special weather conditions such as wave or slope flying. The speakers give specific recommendations for equipment, show practical examples, and talk openly about typical mistakes and how to avoid them. The lecture is rounded off with important safety information to ensure that photography in the cockpit is not only creative but also responsible.

Suddenly everything spins… Stall, spin and what makes it so dangerous

Stalls and subsequent spins are the cause of a significant number of often fatal accidents each year, both in gliding and in powered flight. Especially at low altitudes - whether during takeoff, landing, and terrain-following flight on slopes or in the mountains - there is little time to react. The prevention of stalls and rapid response are therefore of crucial importance. Which configurations and situations particularly often lead to stalls and how are they avoided? How do you regain control of the aircraft as quickly as possible? The situations are illustrated using film footage.

GPS Triangle Racing - Model Flying Meets Cross-Country Gliding

An adventure journey by Ralph Losemann from gliding to an exciting adventure in the field of model flying. The boundaries between technology, flight tactics, and competition from both areas blur. Driven by technical innovations, GPS Triangle Racing is more than just model flying. It is reaching an emotional level that the author previously experienced exclusively in cross-country gliding.
